"This was a new work. The image is partial. The bright colors and surrealism were of interest." (PG)

Michael Fisher, Photo of Petaluma, CA, 2021
"This photo is of a wall drawing in an unused overflow tunnel in Petaluma, Ca. I used a flashlight. And someone to guide me. But no flash. I was just lucky. Very creepy place. Haunting." (MF)
Petaluma, California sits on ancient active swampland and prior to construction of modern drainage systems flooded frequently. The extensive tunnel system drains the wetlands and in the case of major rainstorms carries excess water away from the downtown area. The tunnels are a favorite hangout for many teens and contain miles of intricate street art. Because it is pitch dark in the tunnels, flashlights must be used for navigation and for photo selection.
Ellen Foust, Photo of a Metal Guard Rail on Herrick Road, Newton Centre, MA, 2021
"When I saw this writing on a metal guard rail, it reminded me of Asian calligraphy. I saw something quite elegant hiding in the lines, shapes, colors, and textures in this messy graffiti. Although I had no idea what it meant to the graffiti artist, it gave me the feeling that it does mean something because it looked like the juxtaposition of letters from our alphabet with characters from an unknown character-based language." Sandy Miller-Jacobs, Photo of Image on Wall in Tel Aviv, Israel, 2023
"This image was painted on a wall around many pictures. While the hat indicates it’s a Monkey, it certainly doesn’t look like one! Don’t miss the three eyes! "This photo shows the beauty of a face, especially the eye and the heart on the cheek. The hat is labeled by the artist as "MONKEY." I was glad the hat was on his head so it did not ruin the shape and beauty of the face." (SMJ)
The artist is known as Monkey Rmg. On their profile, they identify as “artist” and “street artist”. This work is not shown on their Instagram feed, but seems to be a smaller and more basic sketch in the style of the larger and more intricate things featured. It would appear that some of their work would qualify as graffiti and some possibly as street art.
