Joanne Fortunato, Photo of a Mural, Malcom X Blvd, Boston, 2022

"As I sat waiting at a red light in Dudley (Nubian) Square, I found myself staring out at this wonderful street art. I quickly grabbed my phone and took a photo at quite a distance away shooting through my windshield. I did not expect a very good photograph. What drew me in were the many different faces of neighborhood residents, and business owners, as well as, icons from Roxbury like Malcom X. The mural depicts a portrait of a community in transition. I look at this image often and think about what life was like decades ago and what it is today. How much has it changed?" (JF)

"Faces of Dudley: Old and New Artist(s): Caleb Neelon, Victor "Marka27" Quiñonez Year Made: 1995 Neighborhood: Roxbury Location: Silver Slipper Restaurant, 2387 Washington St, Roxbury, MA 02119 Malcolm X Blvd side of building . When Mike Womble originally painted the Faces of Dudley mural in 1995, he included portraits of past and present community members and local landmarks. When Womble returned to restore the mural with a new group of artists in 2015, they kept to the original theme while refreshing the colors and details, as well as adding more landmarks and people, such as the portrait of activist Melnea Cass and the renovated Bruce Bolling Municipal Building.”

Jack Kadis, Photo Composite #2 of Graffiti in Florentin, Tel Aviv, Israel, 2017

"In June 2017, I shot photos of about 100 different graffitis in the Tel Aviv neighborhood of Florentin. It's a haven for hipsters and artists that occupies something like 25-30 city blocks in the southern end of town. Walking around, the first thing that struck me was quantity. There was graffiti everywhere you looked, on the sides of buildings, on doorways, on retail store security closures, on utility poles, and back alley dumpsters." (JK)

Lois G. Rosenfeld, Photo of Medford on the Mystic River, Wellington area of Medford, MA, 2022

"This terrific public art work was on a building by the Park. For me, it expressed Medford’s deep-rooted history, pride and refreshing diversity." (LGR)

Interestingly, this is also by Chota 13. It is called “Operación Orión” by John Alexander Serna, who goes by Chota 13. Also in Medellin, Columbia.

Richard Klug, Photo of Famous 5Pointz Graffiti Warehouse, Queens, New York, 2008

"I took these photos in August 2008 at the famous 5Pointz warehouse (later destroyed) in Queens, NY. I felt I was in a fantastic place and I tried to capture it from a different number of angles. The building was later sold to a developer and the graffiti whitewashed overnight. Only in retrospect did I feel fortunate to capture these images before these works were destroyed." (RK)

Peter Gordon, Photo of Mural in Porto Mari, Spain, 2023

"This photo was taken in Porto Mari, Spain which is on the Camino pilgrimage route.  The mural is about a miracle in the town having to do with roosters. We also can see a representation of the Camino in one panel." (PG)
