"These two images commemorate the Mexican Holiday called “ El Dia de La Muerte”. The Holiday is called the "Day of the Dead" honoring those in one's inner circle of family and friends who have died. In Mexico, it can be a holiday period of celebration. It is typical that persons wear colorful masks, as is depicted in the image on the right." (MK)

Deborah Strek, Photo of Image painted on the remains of the Berlin Wall (now referred to as the East Side Gallery), 2017
"This image is interesting as it is one of the few works that does not appear to be political. The artist was born in East Berlin and was only 17 when he painted it. It was inspired by the electronic music of Kraftwerk in which he thought he heard the words “space magic”. I was drawn to the colors and patterns which look like metallic music sounds." (DS)

"This image sent a chill through me. If you look closely, you will see the gas masks, a withered flower, and the smoky / foggy background – a depiction of war and an environmental statement perhaps. The dark message is contrasted with colorful lightbulbs that have been humanized with eyes. The effect was a bit creepy for me!" (DS)

Sandy Miller-Jacobs, Photo of Three Friendly Characters in Tel Aviv, Israel, 2023
"These three friends are enjoying their evening out! They each have their own food and costumes, however the colors all join together.. At first I thought they looked weird, but the more I looked at them, the more interesting they became. The watermelon looked like it was being shared and eaten. It continued to bring joy to the wall on which they were painted." (SMJ)
Ralph Freidin, Photo in Brooklyn, New York, 2022
"Rushing to a performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, I saw this pair of female portraits on a weathered plywood panel, part of the temporary fence marking off a contraction site. Their big eyes, and noses, large faces, the tilt of their heads, one sWemiling and one frowning, as well as the feeling of spontaneity that the artist created this work on the run, drew me out of the ticket line, grab my iPhone and quickly capture this piece of graffiti with the speed that the artist had created it." Ralph Freidin, Photos of Two Murals in a Passageway between Buildings in Central Square Cambridge, MA, 2023
"Walking to my car parked in Central Square, I turned into an ally of graffiti. These are two of a dozen images I took with my IPhone, of the pieces displayed on the walls, ceiling and pavement of this public graffiti gallery." (RF)
Ellen Foust, Photo of the Side of a Building on Denby Road, Allston, MA, 2021
"The furry blue eyes first caught my attention. I waited for quite a while until the clouds aligned the way I envisioned them. Just as they were in place, the family walked by single file, and I knew I had my shot! The scene reminded me of the crossing-the-street image on the cover of the Beatles' Abbey Road album. I love the humor in this image. The furry blue eyes appear to be looking at the family walking by, while above the clouds are doing their own thing unaware of the scene below." (EF)
Guy Moss, Photo of Mural, “Michael Jackson Never Dies", Paris, 2023
“I was exploring the Left Bank in Paris and suddenly almost bumped into the unmistakable image of Michael Jackson. It was huge, penetrating, and hypnotic. He is one of many Americans to whom the French pay homage." (GM)
